Our Beliefs

Mt Zion Baptist Church exists to glorify God by faithfully proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and teaching the Word of God. The following statements summarize what we believe and teach. These beliefs guide our preaching, our worship, and our life together as a church.

The Scriptures

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. By plenary verbal inspiration, we mean that all Scripture, and the very words of Scripture, were given by God through human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the Bible is true, trustworthy, and the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

God

We believe in one true God who exists eternally in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each Person is fully God, equal in nature, power, and glory.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for sin, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will return again in power and glory.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, regenerates the believer, indwells every believer at salvation, and empowers Christian living and service.

Salvation

We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. Salvation is not earned by works but is the gift of God, resulting in a transformed life marked by obedience and growth in holiness.

The Church

We believe the church is a local body of baptized believers who have been joined together for worship, teaching, fellowship, and evangelism. Jesus Christ alone is the head of the church.

The Ordinances

We believe the ordinances of the church are baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is by immersion of believers only. The Lord’s Supper is a memorial ordinance that points to the sacrifice of Christ.

Christian Living

We believe all believers are called to live holy lives in obedience to God. Christian growth comes through the study of Scripture, prayer, and faithful fellowship within the local church.

Last Things

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, eternal life for the redeemed, and eternal separation from God for those who reject Christ.

Affiliation

Mt Zion Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist church. We voluntarily cooperate with other Baptist churches through participation in the Southern Baptist Convention, the Georgia Baptist Convention, and the Smyrna Baptist Association.

We affirm the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) as a faithful summary of biblical doctrine.
